Above and Underwater Inspection of the Foundation of Morris Island Light House

The Sheridan Corporation was the structural engineer-of-record on the above and underwater inspection of the historic Morris Island Lighthouse.  The lighthouse was built shortly after the Civil War on Morris Island.  Erosion of Morris Island through the subsequent years has left the lighthouse approximately a quarter of a mile offshore from the present-day beach.  Underwater scour had left the timber piling supporting the light house foundation exposed to marine boring organisms.  The divers of Eason Diving Corporation discovered significant section loss to the timber pilings supporting the lighthouse.  This inspection report was used as part of the information provided to the construction team that ultimately reinforced the foundation.
